On the evening of March 4, 2010, police in Indianapolis, Indiana, were dispatched to a reported shooting on the city's north side. The incident occurred at an apartment building located at 3640 North Meridian Street. Officers arrived just after 9:45 p.m. to find a 23-year-old Black male named James Edward Cofield III suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
