Keyeon Jacobi Johnson, a 23-year-old Black male from Indianapolis, was fatally shot on the night of Thursday, March 14, 2013. His life was cut short in an alley between Capitol and Graceland Avenues, near the intersection of 30th Street and Capitol Avenue.
Around 11:50 p.m., officers from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department responded to a 911 call reporting gunshots in the area. Upon their arrival, they discovered Johnson, who had sustained at least one gunshot wound.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, detectives began their investigation, canvassing the neighborhood for any information that might lead to a suspect. At the time of the initial reports, police had not identified any suspects and no arrests had been made in connection with the homicide. Authorities urged anyone with information regarding the shooting to come forward and contact the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department or Crime Stoppers. A funeral service for Johnson was held on Saturday, March 23, 2013, at Eastside Baptist Church, and he was laid to rest in Lincoln Memory Gardens in Whitestown, Indiana.
