Douglas Eric Drye, a 26-year-old officer with the Norfolk Police Department, tragically lost his life on April 14, 1984. Officer Drye was responding to a shots fired call at 1065 Green Street around 12:15 am when he encountered a dire situation. Upon arrival, he and another officer discovered a woman who had been shot inside a car parked in front of a home. As they attempted to render aid to the woman, a man inside the home opened fire with an M-1 rifle, striking Officer Drye.
