In the winter of 2017, a burst of gunfire shattered the afternoon calm in a Norfolk, Virginia neighborhood, leaving a young man's life cut tragically short. On Tuesday, December 12th, police and paramedics rushed to the 2800 block of Harrell Avenue around 2 p.m. following reports of a shooting. There they found 19-year-old Daquan D. Davis suffering from a serious gunshot wound.
He was quickly transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, but his injuries proved too severe, and he died shortly after arrival.
The investigation into the shooting moved swiftly. While a motive for the violence was not immediately clear to the public, detectives soon identified suspects in the case. Just a few days after Daquan's death, the Norfolk Police Department announced a significant development: two arrests had been made. The individuals taken into custody were both 17-year-old males, and due to their status as minors, their identities were not publicly released.
The teenage suspects faced serious charges for their alleged involvement in the fatal shooting. Each was charged with one count of second-degree murder and one count of using a firearm in the commission of a felony. Following their arrests, the two were held at the Norfolk Juvenile Detention Center as the legal process against them began.
