On a tragic evening in Newport News, Virginia, the life of 26-year-old Naisha Singleton was cut short. On June 3, 2016, Singleton was fatally shot outside of her home on the 1100 block of 32nd Street. The incident, which occurred just after 10 p.m., stemmed from a domestic dispute with her ex-boyfriend.
The perpetrator was identified as 32-year-old Reginald Langley.
According to Singleton's family, the couple had been together for a decade and had recently broken up, a separation Langley could not accept. On the night of the shooting, Langley attacked Singleton and also attempted to attack her sister, Twinisha, who was present at the scene. Despite pleas for her life, Singleton was shot multiple times.
Following the shooting, Langley fled the scene in his vehicle, leading police on a brief chase. The pursuit ended when Langley crashed his car. As officers approached the vehicle, they discovered that he had suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Langley was transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Naisha Singleton was remembered by her loved ones as a determined woman and a devoted mother to her four sons. She worked as a supervisor for the Virginia Department of Transportation. Her family expressed profound grief over the loss of a woman who they said could always bring a smile to your face and would do anything for her children.
