On a cold January evening in 2017, the life of a young woman was tragically cut short in Newport News, Virginia. Montia Poindexter, a 23-year-old Black female, was found deceased inside a residence in the 900 block of Marcus Drive on January 5th. The discovery was made by police officers who, finding the front door of the home ajar shortly after 5 p.m., entered to investigate and ensure the well-being of anyone inside.
