On a winter morning in Newport News, Virginia, the life of 24-year-old Quinaya Brown was tragically cut short. On December 28, 2016, police responded to a call of a shooting just after 7:30 a.m. at a residence on the 1200 block of 21st Street. Upon arrival, they discovered Ms. Brown on the lower level of the home, suffering from a fatal gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Further investigation inside the residence led officers to the discovery of a second individual, 31-year-old Sean Ward, who was found upstairs with a gunshot wound. Ward was transported to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. It was determined by authorities that the two individuals did not reside together.
Following a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the two deaths, the Newport News police classified the incident as a murder-suicide. Based on this conclusion, there was no search for any additional suspects, and no arrests were made in connection with the case. The investigation was subsequently closed.
