On the night of August 6, 2016, Antoine Christopher St. Lawrence, a 20-year-old man, ended up in the roadway at the intersection of Milford Avenue and Bright Street in Hampton, Virginia, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Officers had been dispatched after a report of shots fired around 10:50 p.m., and when they arrived they found him gravely injured. He was rushed to a hospital with life-threatening wounds, but he did not survive.
Investigators pieced together a grim backstory to the moments before the gunfire: St. Lawrence and two other people had been in the area for what police described as a meeting connected to the purchase of a firearm. According to the investigation described in later reporting, the encounter turned into a robbery—both suspects produced a gun, demanded his money, and then shot him multiple times before running away on foot. In the chaos, at least one round struck a nearby home, though the people inside were not hurt.
Within the initial phase of the case, police made an arrest: a 16-year-old juvenile was taken into custody and charged with murder, robbery, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and conspiracy to commit robbery. The juvenile’s name was not released in the reporting describing the arrest.
Even with that arrest, detectives said the violence involved more than one person, and the search continued for a second suspect. Police described that person as a Black male, about 5'8" to 5'9", with a small goatee, last seen in dark clothing—details shared publicly as investigators tried to identify and locate him. The reporting available publicly from that period focused on the juvenile arrest and the ongoing effort to find the second suspect, without providing a public identification of the person still being sought.
In the days that followed, his death was marked not only in crime coverage but also in remembrance: St. Lawrence was referred to by nicknames “Quanta” or “Nu-Nu” in memorial-style posts about him, and an obituary notice published that month said he had been born December 7, 1995, and noted funeral arrangements in Norfolk, Virginia.
