In the spring of 2017, the life of Larry Williams Jr., a 25-year-old Black male, was tragically cut short in Norfolk, Virginia. On the evening of May 24th, just after 8:30 p.m., gunshots echoed through the 500 block of Walker Avenue. When emergency crews arrived, they discovered Williams suffering from gunshot wounds. He was rushed to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, but tragically, he died from his injuries overnight.
A family man, Williams was the father of three sons and was looking
forward to the birth of a daughter in September of that year. His mother, Tracey Williams, described the heart-wrenching loss of her only son. His death marked the 15th homicide in Norfolk for the year and was the fourth in a particularly violent week for the city. This string of violence prompted a public statement from the Norfolk Police Chief, who spoke about the troubling trend of using firearms to settle disputes.
In the days following the shooting, Norfolk police had no suspects and had not determined a motive for the killing. They appealed to the public for any information that might lead to an arrest, urging community members to contact the Norfolk Crime Line. As of now, publicly available information and news reports have not indicated that any arrests have been made or suspects identified in the murder of Larry Williams Jr. The case remains unresolved, leaving his loved ones without closure.
