In the early hours of a Sunday morning in Portsmouth, Virginia, the life of Deandre K. Morrison, a 25-year-old male, was tragically cut short. On January 19, 2020, at approximately 4:24 a.m., police responded to a call in the 200 block of Avondale Road. Upon arrival, they discovered Morrison with a fatal gunshot wound to his upper body. Portsmouth. Born on July 30, 1994, he was remembered for his welcoming smile and a large personality that drew people to him. A graduate of I. C. Norcom High School, he was a former football player who was known for his jovial and playful nature. His friends and family recalled him as a good-natured, fun-loving, and supportive individual who was a protector to his mother, grandmother, sister, and brother.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, another man was found in the 100 block of Allard Road with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound and was taken to a local hospital for treatment. At the time, Portsmouth police detectives began an investigation into the shooting and appealed to the public for any information that might lead to an arrest.
