On January 24, 2024, at approximately 12:30 a.m., 37-year-old Johnny Burden and 34-year-old Jerome Hunter arrived at Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center in Portsmouth, Virginia, both suffering from gunshot wounds. Burden succumbed to his injuries, while Hunter was treated for non-life-threatening wounds. Hunter informed police that their vehicle had been fired upon near the intersection of State Route 164 and Towne Point Road.
