In the early hours of a Sunday morning in Portsmouth, Virginia, the life of 18-year-old Tyquan Charles was tragically cut short. On March 10, 2019, at approximately 1:52 a.m., police responded to a call on Buchanan Avenue. Upon their arrival, they discovered Charles, a resident of Norfolk, who had sustained a fatal gunshot wound to his upper body. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into the shooting quickly developed as a second victim, a juvenile male, later appeared
at a local hospital with a gunshot wound. Authorities believe this injury was connected to the same incident that resulted in Charles's death. The Portsmouth Police Department's investigation led to the arrest of a juvenile male suspect.
The unnamed juvenile was taken into custody and faced a series of serious charges, including first-degree murder for the death of Tyquan Charles. Additional charges included aggravated malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and underage possession of a firearm. Born on April 10, 2000, Tyquan Charles was a young man whose life was abruptly ended by gun violence.
