In the early morning hours of a summer day in Portsmouth, Virginia, the life of 33-year-old Antwan Wiggins was tragically cut short. On July 26, 2015, Wiggins, a married father from Norfolk, was at the London Oaks Apartments located in the 1100 block of Mount Vernon Avenue. He was reportedly hanging out with a group of friends just before 3 a.m.
A friend who was with him recalled going upstairs to her apartment.
Moments after getting into bed, she heard the sound of three gunshots ring out in the quiet of the morning. Rushing to her window, she was met with a devastating sight – her friend, known affectionately as 'Twan,' was lying on the ground below. He had been shot in the upper body.
Emergency services were called to the scene, but despite their efforts, Antwan Wiggins succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The news of his sudden and violent death sent shockwaves through his family and community, who remembered him as a loving husband, father, son, brother, and uncle.
In the wake of the shooting, the Portsmouth Police Department launched a homicide investigation.
