In the late hours of a summer night in Portsmouth, Virginia, the life of 28-year-old Bernard Maurice Clack was tragically cut short. On August 2, 2022, Clack, a man known for his hardworking and loving nature, was driving with two companions after a stop at a local convenience store on Turnpike Road. As their vehicle reached the intersection of Portsmouth Boulevard and Deep Creek Boulevard, another car pulled alongside them.
Multiple gunshots were fired into Clack's vehicle, one of which struck him in the back of the head.
Despite the immediate danger, one of the uninjured passengers managed to drive them to a nearby hospital. Medical personnel attended to Clack's life-threatening injuries, but he ultimately succumbed to the fatal gunshot wound and was pronounced deceased. Another man in the car also sustained a gunshot wound but was expected to recover. The incident left a community in mourning for a man described as a devoted 'Girl Dad' who was always respectful and humble.
An investigation into the shooting revealed that a man named Jerry Pork, Jr. had been at the same convenience store as Clack and his friends just before the incident, though no altercation occurred between them at that time. Subsequently, Pork was identified as the shooter. In November 2024, a jury found Jerry Pork, Jr. guilty of first-degree murder and several firearms charges in connection with Clack's death. He is scheduled to be sentenced for his crimes.
