On the afternoon of March 19, 2020, a young man's life was cut tragically short in Norfolk, Virginia. Twenty-two-year-old Devonte Tae Stacks was discovered with gunshot wounds in the 3100 block of Azalea Garden Road. When police officers arrived around noon, they found him unresponsive, and he was pronounced deceased at the scene. His death was immediately investigated as a homicide.
The investigation into the shooting continued for months as detectives worked to piece together the events that led to the fatal encounter. The Norfolk Police Department actively pursued leads and gathered evidence in their search for those responsible for Devonte's death.
Their persistent efforts eventually led to a significant breakthrough in the case.
Authorities identified and arrested several individuals in connection with the homicide. Curtis L. Willoughby, Deante A. Davis, and Ziontaye T. Spencer were taken into custody and faced a range of serious charges, including second-degree murder, malicious wounding, and various firearm offenses. Following their arrests, the suspects were held without bond at the Norfolk City Jail as they awaited their court proceedings.
