On the evening of October 10, 2024, a sequence of violent events in Norfolk, Virginia, led to the tragic death of 48-year-old Christian J. Williams. A Black male resident of the city, Williams was discovered by police officers who were initially responding to a report of a car accident in the 1500 block of Kerrey Avenue shortly before 8:30 p.m. Upon their arrival, they found Williams inside his vehicle, not just involved in a collision, but also suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound.
He was quickly transported to a nearby hospital, but tragically, he succumbed to his injuries.
As the Norfolk Police Department delved into the case, their preliminary investigation uncovered that the car crash was a grim consequence of an earlier, more violent incident. Detectives determined that Williams had been shot in the 4600 block of Kincaid Avenue. After being wounded, he had managed to drive away from the scene of the shooting, his flight for safety ending when his vehicle struck another car on Kerrey Avenue. The police classified his death as a homicide and began the arduous task of piecing together the circumstances that led to this fatal encounter.
For weeks, the investigation into Christian Williams's death continued, with authorities appealing to the public for any information that might lead to an arrest. Finally, a significant breakthrough was made. Norfolk homicide detectives identified Jason M. Robinson, a 35-year-old man from the neighboring city of Portsmouth, as the suspect. Following their investigation, Robinson was charged with second-degree murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. On December 29, 2024, he was taken into custody by the Chesapeake Police for an unrelated matter and is currently being held in the Chesapeake City Jail without bond. While an arrest has been made, detectives have not yet released a motive or any further circumstances surrounding the homicide.
