A Black male, Daeshaun was fatally shot on July 17, 2022, just one day before he would have celebrated his 16th birthday. The incident unfolded on Greenleaf Drive, where police responded to a report of gunfire. Upon their arrival, officers discovered the young teen suffering from a serious gunshot wound.
He was rushed to a hospital for medical attention but ultimately succumbed to his injuries a few days later.
The investigation into Daeshaun's death revealed a heartbreaking scenario. According to his family, the shooting was an accident, the result of two young friends playing with a firearm. The person responsible for the fatal shot was identified as a 13-year-old friend of Daeshaun's. Following the incident, the juvenile was taken into custody and faced legal consequences for his actions. He was subsequently charged with reckless handling of a firearm and possession of a firearm by a juvenile.
In the wake of this devastating loss, Daeshaun's family and community were left to grapple with the senselessness of his death.
