In the early hours of May 3, 2015, a party in the 7000 block of Mamie Boulevard in Norfolk, Virginia, turned tragic. Gunshots erupted, causing chaos and sending a large crowd of partygoers fleeing into the night. When first responders arrived at the scene shortly after 4:00 a.m., they discovered two victims who had been struck by gunfire.
One victim, a woman, was found with serious injuries and immediately transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital for treatment.
The second victim, 32-year-old Shakia Donte Anderson, a resident of the 800 block of Golf Street, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was a male. In the immediate aftermath, law enforcement officials began the arduous task of piecing together the events that led to the deadly shooting.
Norfolk Police detectives launched an active investigation into the homicide of Shakia Anderson. Despite the large number of people present at the party, authorities struggled to gather information on a suspect. In the days following the shooting, the police department made a public appeal for assistance, urging anyone who attended the party, witnessed the incident, or had any information about the shooting to come forward. A cash reward was offered through the Norfolk Crime Line in an effort to generate leads, but information regarding a suspect was not released. The case remains an active investigation.
