On January 15, 2023, at approximately 4:40 a.m., Norfolk Police responded to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital after two men arrived with life-threatening gunshot wounds. One of the victims, 37-year-old Omon L. Hamlin from Norfolk, Virginia, succumbed to his injuries, while the other man remained in stable condition. Investigators determined that the shooting occurred near the intersection of Colonial Avenue and West 27th Street in the Park Place section of Norfolk.
