In the quiet area near South Hill, Virginia, a transaction turned deadly, claiming the life of 19-year-old Jahmir Wilson of Danville. The Black / African American male drove himself to VCU Health Community Memorial Hospital in South Hill on the evening of May 18, 2022, suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite his efforts to find help, he succumbed to his injuries shortly after his arrival.
The Brunswick County Sheriff's Office, in conjunction with the South Hill Police, initiated an
investigation into the fatal shooting. Through their inquiries, authorities learned that the incident occurred on the 900 block of Mt. Zion Road, located north of South Hill. Witnesses reported that the shooting took place during a gun sale that had gone wrong.
The investigation quickly led to a significant development. On May 19, 2022, law enforcement identified and brought in a juvenile for questioning. During the interview, the juvenile confessed to the shooting and disclosed the location of the firearm used in the incident. Following the confession, the juvenile suspect was charged with murder and taken to the Piedmont Juvenile Detention Center. While the arrest marked a critical turning point in the case, the investigation remained open as authorities continued to seek more information and determine if any other individuals were involved in the events that led to Wilson's death.
