In the early evening of February 15, 2022, the life of 34-year-old Cody Allen Gibson of Roanoke, Virginia, was tragically cut short. Roanoke County police officers were dispatched to the 5400 block of Williamson Road at approximately 6 p.m. following a report of shots fired. Upon their arrival, they discovered a male victim with an apparent gunshot wound.
Emergency personnel on the scene immediately began life-saving measures until Roanoke County Fire & Rescue arrived.
Gibson was then transported to Roanoke Memorial Hospital, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries. The incident was quickly ruled a homicide, prompting an investigation by detectives.
Through the course of their investigation, authorities were able to identify a suspect in the fatal shooting. The following morning, with the assistance of U.S. Marshals, the Roanoke County Police Department took 22-year-old Brandon Lee Dunbar, also of Roanoke, into custody. Dunbar was subsequently charged with second-degree murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
