Miguel Angel Fuentes Nava, a 27-year-old Hispanic male, tragically lost his life on April 26, 2022, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Born on May 7, 1994, in Santa Monica, California, Miguel was the son of Norbetoi Fuentes Nava and Yenny Sanchaizec Nava. He is survived by his parents, three sisters, and two brothers.
On the evening of April 26, 2022, Miguel was the victim of a targeted drive-by shooting outside his home on Leona Street.
The incident occurred around 6:20 p.m., and Miguel was quickly transported to a local hospital in a private vehicle. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival. A 14-year-old boy, who was also present at the scene, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was treated and released from the hospital.
The investigation into Miguel's death led to the arrest of two individuals. Luis Enrique Arellano Salinas, a 19-year-old male, was charged with murder and obstruction of a law enforcement officer. He was taken into custody and placed in the Forsyth County jail without bond. Additionally, a 17-year-old male was also charged with murder and transferred to a juvenile detention facility. The police confirmed that the shooting was not a random act, as the suspects specifically targeted Miguel.
Miguel's death marked the 15th homicide in Winston-Salem for the year 2022, a significant increase compared to the same period in 2021. The community mourned the loss of a young life, and his family and friends gathered to pay their respects at a graveside service held on May 1, 2022, at Mt. Gur Cemetery in Kernersville, North Carolina.
