On a summer afternoon in Detroit, Michigan, a verbal disagreement tragically escalated, ending the life of 56-year-old Carlton Grenlee. The fatal encounter occurred around 5:35 p.m. on July 22, 2021, on the front porch of a residence in the 19600 block of Revere Street.
An argument between Grenlee and another man, identified as Bryce Ricardo-Marcell Jester, turned violent when Jester allegedly produced a handgun and fired, striking Grenlee.
Detroit Police Department officers responded to the scene to find Grenlee suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite the arrival of medics, his injuries proved fatal, and he was pronounced dead at the location.
The day following the shooting, on July 23, 2021, police arrested the then 32-year-old Bryce Ricardo-Marcell Jester in connection with the incident. On July 25, he was formally charged with one count of premeditated first-degree murder, one count of assault with intent to commit murder, and two counts of felony firearm. His arraignment took place in the 36th District Court, with subsequent court dates scheduled for a probable cause conference on August 4 and a preliminary examination on August 11, 2021.
