On a cold December morning in Detroit, Michigan, just three days before Christmas in 2022, the life of 26-year-old Patrick Jones was tragically cut short. The young man, a father of two with a third child on the way, was in a house in the 12000 block of Banneker Court when he was shot multiple times in the upper body. The incident unfolded just before 11 a.m. on December 22nd.
Despite a swift response from police and medics, his injuries were too severe, and he succumbed to them before he could be transported to a hospital.
The alleged shooter was identified as Lemonte Richawn Jackson, who was the brother of Jones's girlfriend. Jones's 13-year-old sister witnessed the horrific event and was the one to call both her mother and 911 for help. Jackson is said to have gotten into a verbal altercation with Jones before the fatal shots were fired in an upstairs bedroom of the home. After the shooting, Jackson reportedly threatened the young witness before fleeing the scene.
Jackson was later arrested and faced multiple charges, including first-degree murder, felon in possession of a firearm, and felony firearm. His alleged violent acts were not isolated to this single tragedy; he was also accused of the murder of 30-year-old Rodney Carter just days prior to Jones's death. Jones's family, devastated by their loss, remembered him as a loving father and one of eight siblings who had a passion for singing and dancing. They have been vocal in their calls for justice and an end to gun violence.
