On May 5, 2021, the Detroit community was shaken by the loss of Dennis Tyrone Smith, II, a 46-year-old Black/African American male who was fatally shot in the middle of the day. The incident occurred around 12:20 PM outside the Manhattan Chicken and Fish restaurant on Livernois Avenue, south of McNichols Road.
