Known affectionately as 'Coach Smitty' or 'Buster,' Smith was a father of five and a respected assistant football coach at Cass Technical High School, where he was a mentor to many young
athletes. His sudden and violent death sent ripples of grief through the lives of his family, friends, and the numerous young men he had coached and guided.
Surveillance footage from the scene captured a masked man armed with a gun fleeing the area immediately following the shooting.
