A Halloween night party in Kingsville, Texas, turned tragic, ending the life of 18-year-old Katelynn Villarreal. The young woman died from a gunshot wound to the head during a small gathering on the 300 block of West Kenedy Avenue on what was supposed to be a festive evening. Born and raised in Kingsville, Katelynn was a student at H.M. King Care Academy and had previously been an employee at a local Dollar General. Those who knew her remembered a young woman with a protective and nurturing heart who brightened every room she entered.
Katelynn was deeply devoted to her family and shared a particularly special bond with her younger brother, whom she cared for immensely. Her love extended to her entire family, including her parents, grandparents, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins, who could always depend on her. Her absence is now a profound void in the lives of her loved ones and all who had the fortune of knowing her.
In the aftermath of the shooting, authorities identified a suspect in the case. The alleged shooter, 18-year-old Larry Rodriguez, turned himself in to the police on Saturday, November 1, 2025. Following his surrender, the Kleberg County Sheriff's Office arrested Rodriguez and charged him with murder. He is currently being held in custody on an $800,000 bond as the investigation into the circumstances of the fatal shooting remains ongoing.
