On the night of May 10, 2024, at approximately 11:12 p.m., Schertz Police Department officers responded to reports of gunfire in the 11600 block of Voges Pass in Schertz, Texas. Upon arrival, they discovered 30-year-old Arminda Godina Gonzales with multiple gunshot wounds; she was pronounced dead at the scene.
A male individual present at the scene was detained by authorities for questioning. He claimed to have shot Gonzales in self-defense.
The Schertz Police Department, with assistance from the Texas Rangers, initiated an investigation to determine the circumstances leading to the shooting and to assess the validity of the self-defense claim.
The Bexar County Medical Examiner's Office conducted an autopsy and ruled Gonzales's death a homicide caused by gunshot wounds. As of now, the identity of the detained individual has not been publicly disclosed, and no formal charges have been filed. The case remains under investigation, with findings to be forwarded to the Bexar County District Attorney's Office for potential criminal charges upon completion.
In the wake of this tragedy, Gonzales's mother, Rita Godina, established a GoFundMe campaign to assist with funeral expenses, expressing her grief and seeking support for her daughter's burial. Gonzales is survived by her mother, her children—daughter Noemi Esperanza Luna and sons Noel Israel Luna Jr. and Nehemiah Tomas Luna—their father, and other family members.
