On March 6, 2017, 15-year-old Hispanic female Jennifer Delgado was found shot to death in her San Antonio, Texas apartment. She was nine months pregnant at the time. Her 1-year-old son was found unharmed at the scene. The suspect, 35-year-old Armando Rodrigo Garcia-Ramires, who was previously her stepfather and the father of both her children, was found nearby with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was arrested and charged with two counts of capital murder.
Garcia-Ramires had a history of illegal entry into the United States and had been released from ICE custody shortly before the murder. The case raised concerns about missed opportunities to intervene, as Delgado's pregnancy and relationship with Garcia-Ramires had not been reported to authorities.
A grand jury indicted Garcia-Ramires in June 2017. As of the latest available information, he remains in custody awaiting trial.
