Veronica Hernandez, a 17-year-old Hispanic female, was tragically killed on November 20, 2013, in Houston, Texas. The incident occurred in a studio apartment located in the Copperfield area of northwest Harris County. Veronica, along with two other victims, 21-year-old Yosselyn Alfaro and 17-year-old Daniel Munoz, were shot multiple times in the head while sitting on a couch. The suspect, Johnathan Sanchez, also known as "J Boi," was identified but not immediately apprehended.
The shooting left two other individuals critically injured, who were flown to Memorial Hermann Hospital for treatment.
The investigation revealed that the victims had connections to local gangs, although Munoz's family insisted he was not a gang member. The suspect, Sanchez, was believed to have ties to a well-known street gang and was reportedly under the influence of hallucinogenic drugs at the time of the attack. The motive behind the shooting remained unclear, but authorities found weapons and suspected narcotics in the apartment.
Johnathan Sanchez was eventually arrested and charged with capital murder. In November 2015, he was convicted and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. The case highlighted the ongoing issue of gang violence in the area and left the community in shock and fear. The families of the victims expressed their grief and sorrow, mourning the loss of their loved ones and the abrupt end to their young lives.
