On a Wednesday evening in Detroit, what began as a dispute at a gas station escalated into a fatal act of violence that claimed the life of a beloved community member. Bernard Holmes, a 60-year-old Black man, was shot and killed on June 17, 2020. Known affectionately as 'Nardo' to his friends and family, Holmes was a mason by trade and a long-time resident of his west side neighborhood, where he was known for his kindness and willingness to help others.
