In the spring of 2023, the life of a young Detroit man, Durron Gray, was tragically cut short. On the evening of May 2nd, the 21-year-old Black male was seated in a parked vehicle on the city's west side, near the intersection of Greenfield and Plymouth Roads. He was not alone; a 22-year-old woman and a 30-year-old man were also in the car at the time.
Suddenly, the quiet evening was shattered by the sound of gunfire.
An unknown assailant, or assailants, opened fire on the vehicle, striking all three occupants. In the aftermath of the violent outburst, Durron Gray was fatally wounded. The two other individuals in the car sustained injuries but survived the attack. The shooter, or shooters, wasted no time in fleeing the scene, reportedly escaping in a black Dodge Charger, a detail that would become a focal point of the subsequent investigation.
The Detroit Police Department quickly launched a homicide investigation into the triple shooting. As they began to piece together the events of that tragic night, they publicly announced that they were seeking a 'person of interest' who they believed might have information crucial to solving the case.
