On a Sunday afternoon in southwest Detroit, 45-year-old David Gergel was driving his vehicle near the intersection of Dix and Woodmere. It was September 6, 2015, and he was on his way to collect a payment for a paint job he had completed. His path was blocked by a newer model, black four-door Cadillac that was stopped in the middle of the street. As Gergel maneuvered his vehicle around the stopped car, an occupant of the Cadillac opened fire.
