In the early morning hours of March 10, 2015, a violent confrontation on the east side of Detroit, Michigan, claimed the life of 38-year-old Chauncey Jarrett, a Black male. The incident occurred around 3:30 a.m. as Jarrett was walking with a group of three other people—a 21-year-old man and two women in their early twenties—returning from a nearby restaurant. As the group traveled along Beaconsfield Street near the intersection with Britian Avenue, close to I-94 and Cadieux Road, their path was blocked by two unknown individuals.
The encounter quickly escalated when the two men, who were obscuring their faces with masks, approached the group and announced a robbery. During the chaotic moments that followed, the assailants opened fire on the victims. Jarrett attempted to run from the danger but was fatally struck by the gunfire. The 21-year-old man accompanying him was also shot and sustained injuries that were reported as non-life-threatening, while the two women in the group managed to escape physically unharmed.
Following the shooting, the perpetrators fled the scene and disappeared into the surrounding neighborhood. Law enforcement officials launched a search for the suspects, releasing descriptions based on witness accounts. The first suspect was described as standing approximately 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighing around 185 pounds, dressed in a gray hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans. The second suspect was described as having a similar height but a heavier build, weighing around 200 pounds, and wearing entirely dark clothing. Both men were reported to be wearing masks to conceal their identities. At the time of the initial investigation, no arrests had been made, and police urged anyone with information about the deadly attempted robbery to come forward.
