Andrzej Wojciech Olbrot, a 52-year-old professor of computer engineering at Wayne State University, was tragically killed on December 10, 1998, in Detroit, Michigan. Olbrot was administering a final exam to his graduate students in a computer engineering class at the university's Old Main building when the incident occurred.
