On June 29, 2023, 38-year-old Deandre Bankhead was fatally shot while sitting in his car on Kimberly Court near Grand River and Joy in Detroit. According to his father, Andre Sheffield, Bankhead had been drinking and chose to sleep in his vehicle outside a residence. A man approached the car, reportedly due to loud music, and knocked on the window. When Bankhead appeared to reach for something, the man, fearing he was grabbing a weapon, shot him. However, no gun was found in the car.
