In the midst of a Monday afternoon on Detroit's east side, a burst of gunfire shattered the neighborhood's calm, tragically ending the life of 20-year-old Tavontae Mathis-Jones. The shooting, which occurred on October 14, 2024, on Haverhill Street, also left three other individuals wounded. Mathis-Jones was rushed to St. John Ascension Hospital, but succumbed to his injuries.
