In the late hours of a Monday evening in Jackson, Mississippi, the life of 15-year-old Amiyah Lee was tragically cut short. On September 13, 2021, the Black female teenager was in the Presidential Hills neighborhood when gunfire erupted. Amiyah was struck in the head by a bullet from an unknown assailant. She was rushed to the University of Mississippi Medical Center for treatment but succumbed to her injuries the following morning. Her death marked the 105th homicide in the city that year.
