In the early morning hours of August 24, 2020, the life of 14-year-old Skylar Whitney was tragically cut short in Louisville, Kentucky. A Black male, Skylar was in the Shawnee neighborhood when violence erupted. Around 3:30 a.m., Louisville Metro Police responded to a report of a shooting on Cecil Avenue, near Shawnee Park. Upon their arrival, they discovered the young teen suffering from a gunshot wound.
Emergency services transported Skylar to University Hospital in an attempt to save
his life. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The Jefferson County Coroner's Office later confirmed his identity. It was noted that Skylar lived in the vicinity of where the shooting occurred.
The LMPD Homicide Unit has been handling the investigation into Skylar's death. In the immediate aftermath and in the time that has passed, authorities have appealed to the public for any information that might lead to a breakthrough in the case. However, despite these appeals, no suspects have been publicly identified, and no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting. The case has left a grieving family and community searching for answers and justice for a life taken too soon.
