Gary Kenneth 'Scootie' Lawrence, a 49-year-old Black male, was fatally shot on the evening of Tuesday, October 6, 2020, in the Old Louisville neighborhood. The shooting took place at approximately 8:00 PM in the 300 block of East Ormsby Avenue. A native of Paris, Kentucky, Lawrence was a husband and a salesman who was a member of the St. Stephens Baptist Church in Louisville.
Upon receiving reports of the shooting, officers from the Louisville Metro Police Department arrived at the scene
to find Mr. Lawrence suffering from gunshot wounds. He was promptly transported to the University of Louisville Medical Center for emergency treatment. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. The Jefferson County Coroner's Office later officially identified him as the victim.
The Homicide Unit of the Louisville Metro Police Department has been conducting an ongoing investigation into the shooting death of Gary Lawrence. In the initial stages of the investigation, authorities addressed and dismissed rumors that a police officer may have been involved in the incident. To date, there has been no public announcement regarding any arrests made in connection with the case, nor has any information about a suspect or suspects been released.
