In the early morning hours of April 3, 2024, the life of Gregory Powell Jr., a 33-year-old Black man, was tragically cut short in Louisville, Kentucky. The incident unfolded around 1 a.m. in the 4300 block of Norbrook Drive, located in the Buechel neighborhood. Officers from the Louisville Metro Police Department's Sixth Division responded to a call about a person down and discovered Mr. Powell at the scene.
He had sustained what appeared to be a gunshot wound.
Emergency medical personnel were dispatched to the location, but despite their efforts, Mr. Powell was pronounced dead at the scene. The Jefferson County Coroner's Office later officially identified him as the victim. His death was ruled a homicide, prompting an immediate investigation by the LMPD's Homicide Unit.
