In the heart of winter, just two days after his eighteenth birthday, Clinton Kwan Sherwood Jr., a young Black / African American man, was tragically killed. On the afternoon of January 15, 2021, the sound of gunshots echoed through his apartment building in the 600 block of Freeman Drive in Kansas City, Kansas. Worried neighbors quickly dialed 911.
When police officers arrived at the scene, they found the young man, a student at Washington High School, deceased inside his home.
The sudden and violent end to a life just beginning sent shockwaves through his family and community. Clinton, born on January 13, 2003, to his parents Dominique King and Clinton Kwan Sherwood Sr., was a beloved son, brother, and friend. He leaves behind his mother, father, and numerous siblings who are left to grapple with the void his absence has created. His extended family, including grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins, also mourn his untimely passing.
In the wake of the shooting, the Kansas City, Kansas Police Department's Major Case Unit launched a homicide investigation. Despite their efforts and public appeals for information, no suspects have been identified in connection with Clinton's death. As of the latest available information, no arrests have been made, and the case remains an unsolved tragedy, leaving a family to wait for justice and a community to hope for answers.
