On a Thursday evening in Washington, D.C., the life of 27-year-old Tyrone Lee Lewis, a Black male, was cut short by gunfire. It was November 13, 2014, at approximately 6:42 p.m. when police responded to a call for a shooting in the 300 block of 37th Street, Southeast. Inside a residence, they found Lewis unconscious and suffering from a gunshot wound. D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel rushed him to a local hospital, but his injuries proved fatal, and he was pronounced dead.
