In the winter of 2019 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the life of 20-year-old Tenacious Harris, a Black / African American male, was cut short in a burst of violence that left a community searching for answers. On the evening of Tuesday, February 19, police were called to the 1800 block of A Avenue NE after reports of gunfire echoed through the neighborhood.
In an alley, they discovered shell casings, the silent remnants of the incident.
A short time later, another call directed officers to a vehicle near Franklin Middle School. Inside, they found Tenacious Harris suffering from a critical gunshot wound. He was rushed to a local hospital for emergency medical treatment. For five days, he fought for his life, but his injuries proved too severe. On Sunday, February 24, 2019, Tenacious Harris died at UnityPoint Health-St. Luke's Hospital.
