An evening of socializing at the Taboo Nightclub & Lounge in downtown Cedar Rapids, Iowa, turned deadly in the early morning hours of April 10, 2022. Inside the crowded venue, where about 100 to 150 people were gathered, a barrage of gunfire erupted, causing chaos as patrons scrambled for safety. When the shooting ceased, two individuals lay dead, and ten others were wounded. One of the deceased was a 25-year-old Black / African American male named Michael Valentine.
