On July 17, 1983, Dennis Wayne Chaffee, a 33-year-old resident of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, was found murdered in his home at 914 28th St. SE. The discovery was made by his parents, Harlon and Betty Chaffee, after they were alerted by Dennis's ex-partner, Mary Hernandez, who had dropped off their 18-month-old twins, Maria and Adam Chaffee, at the house on the evening of July 16.
