On November 24, 2024, 37-year-old Tyler McGinty from Houston, Texas, was fatally shot during a transaction involving the sale of a PlayStation 5. McGinty had listed the gaming console online for $350 and arranged to meet a potential buyer at a hotel located at 3850 Wilcrest Drive. During the meeting, he was shot in the head and subsequently transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead on November 28, 2024.
The Houston Police Department identified 18-year-old Zavion Joshua Pabon as a person of interest in the case. Pabon was arrested and charged with capital murder and aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon. He is currently in custody, with his next hearing scheduled for December 12, 2024.
McGinty's mother, Tammy Smith, expressed her grief and disbelief over the incident, stating, "He got his head blown off for a PlayStation 5." She also found some comfort in knowing that her son was an organ donor, and his heart continues to beat.
