On December 10, 2023, at approximately 6:15 p.m., 28-year-old Bryson Jacoby Walton was fatally shot outside Primos Food Store, located at 14180 State Highway 249 North in northwest Harris County, Houston, Texas. According to the Harris County Sheriff's Office, Walton exited the store and was walking toward his vehicle when he became involved in a verbal altercation with another man on the sidewalk in front of the store. Despite the confrontation, Walton proceeded to his car, with the suspect following closely behind. As Walton began to enter the driver's side of his vehicle, the suspect produced a handgun and fired multiple shots into the car, striking Walton. Emergency medical services were called, but Walton was pronounced dead at the scene.

In the days following the shooting, the Harris County Sheriff's Office released surveillance images of the suspect in an effort to solicit the public's assistance in identifying and locating him. The suspect was described as a Black male, approximately 25 years old, with twists or braids in his hair. Authorities urged anyone with information to contact the Sheriff's Office Homicide Unit or Crime Stoppers of Houston.

On May 3, 2024, nearly five months after the incident, Harris County deputies responded to a report of a discharged firearm at a residence in Spring, Texas. Upon arrival, they identified the individual involved as 25-year-old Tarrence Knapper, who had an outstanding warrant for the murder of Bryson Walton. In addition to the murder warrant, Knapper had seven outstanding misdemeanor warrants and was found in possession of 4.74 grams of crack cocaine and marijuana at the time of his arrest. He was subsequently booked into the Harris County Jail on charges of murder and possession of a controlled substance.

The arrest of Knapper brought a significant development to the case, providing Walton's family and the community with a sense of progress toward justice. As of the latest available information, Knapper's bond had not been set, and the legal proceedings were expected to continue as the case moved through the judicial system. Authorities continued to encourage anyone with further information related to the case to come forward to assist in the ongoing investigation.
