On January 21, 2023, 18-year-old Christopher Aguilar was fatally shot during a robbery attempt in the Alief area of Houston, Texas. While seated in his SUV on Lucky Star Drive, Aguilar was approached by two individuals who demanded money and then shot him. After being shot, Aguilar lost control of his vehicle, crashing into a nearby house. He was airlifted to a hospital but succumbed to his injuries.
In the days following the incident, Harris County Sheriff's Office investigators arrested two juvenile suspects, aged 14 and 16, charging them with capital murder in connection with Aguilar's death. The suspects were also linked to a similar robbery that occurred on January 16 in the same area.
Aguilar's family, already familiar with tragedy, had previously endured the unsolved murder of his mother, Lina Ortega, 12 years earlier in southwest Houston. Aguilar, a student at Hastings High School, was remembered by his family as a joyful soul who enjoyed driving his truck around Alief and spending time with friends.
The arrests of the two juveniles provided some solace to Aguilar's grieving family, who expressed a desire for justice and hoped that the suspects would face the full extent of the law. The family also initiated a GoFundMe campaign to assist with funeral expenses, seeking support from the community during this difficult time.
