On June 24, 2022, 16-year-old Daveon Jones, a student at Wheatley High School in Houston, Texas, was tragically shot and killed near his home in the Hidden Meadows Subdivision. Daveon, an honors student and athlete, had arranged to buy a small amount of marijuana from his friend, 18-year-old Tyler Marshall. Marshall picked up Jones after a morning workout, and the two headed towards the Stonefield Terrace subdivision.
According to reports, Jones allegedly tried to rob Marshall and his mother, Yvonne Hinojosa, by grabbing a yellow bag from the car's front seat and running away. Marshall retrieved a pistol and shot Jones, who was unarmed. Two hours later, Jones' body was found in the backyard of a home on Melody Park Lane, just a few hundred feet from his family's home.
In the aftermath of the shooting, both Tyler Marshall and his mother, Yvonne Hinojosa, were charged with murder.
While Hinojosa did not pull the trigger, she was charged because she was driving her son at the time of the incident. The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain unclear, and both suspects are currently out on bond.
