On the evening of February 28, 2025, 15-year-old Hispanic male Christopher Joaquín García was fatally shot in northeast Houston, Texas. The incident occurred around 8:50 p.m. in the 7300 block of Hershe Street, approximately a block from his home. Christopher was found unresponsive with multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders.
According to the Houston Police Department Christopher had been out with friends that evening when he reportedly received a phone call leading to a heated argument. Shortly thereafter, a black four-door sedan, possibly a Chevrolet Impala, drove by and opened fire on the vehicle where Christopher was sitting, striking him multiple times. The suspect vehicle then fled westbound onHershe Street.
Witnesses described the suspects as three to four Hispanic males in their late teens. Investigations revealed that Christopher had been receiving death threats from schoolmates with whom he had previous altercations. His mother, Irma García, stated that her son had been threatened and physically assaulted by these individuals, who were classmates at Furr High School.
On March 24, 2025, HPD arrested a 15-year-old male suspect in connection with the shooting. The suspect, also a student at Furr High School, was charged with murder and referred to the Harris County Juvenile Probation authorities. Due to his age, his identity has not been disclosed. Two additional suspects, aged 16 and 17, have been identified but remain at large. Authorities are awaiting judicial orders to proceed with their arrests.
Christopher García was born on June 5, 2009, in Houston, Texas. He was a ninth-grade student and is remembered fondly by his family and community. Funeral services were held on March 6, 2025, at Compean Funeral Home in Houston.
